The Upper Demerara - Berbice, is the tenth Administrative Region of Guyana that contains the largest portion of hilly sand and clay area. Bauxite mining and logging are the two main sources of economic activities of the region. The Region has an estimated population of 39,106 with the second largest town and is dominated by beautiful blue lakes, with the three (3) main rivers (Essequibo, Demerara, Berbice) all passing through the Region. The journey on the Linden Soesdyke Highway is one beautiful adventure, to cross nine (9) creeks, the first being the famous Splashmins and the last, Bamia. Also, several small settlements such as Kuru Kururu, Yarrowkabra, Harununi, Kuru Kuru, Long Creek, Loo Creek, Kairuni, Silverhill, and Bamia.
However, other places that are some distance off the Highway and would not be visible, unless for their signboard, are St. Cuthbert
